A New Year Reflection: 30 Years of Envirocare in Southern Spain

Every New Year brings a moment to reflect — on what we’ve built, who we’ve served, and what still matters as we move forward.
This year is especially meaningful because Envirocare marks 30 years since I founded the business in 1996, here in southern Spain. Over three decades, we’ve grown steadily by focusing on one thing: delivering reliable, high-quality air conditioning services that customers can trust.
How Envirocare Started (1996)
When Envirocare began, Phil Barr — my husband and business partner — and I were a young couple building a life in Spain and starting an air conditioning business from the ground up. Our approach was simple then, and it remains the same today: do the job properly, explain options clearly, and stand behind the work.
A special memory from that time is the photograph you see above. It appeared in The Club Naranja magazine, a social and community club in Calahonda, and it was the first article ever written about Envirocare. It captured the early days when every installation mattered, every customer relationship was personal, and our reputation was built one job at a time.
Air Conditioning Installation, Servicing, Maintenance & Repairs
As the industry has evolved, so have the systems customers need — more efficiency, quieter performance, and solutions designed for each property. Envirocare now provides the full lifecycle of air conditioning support:
• Air conditioning installation
• Air conditioning servicing
• Planned maintenance
• Air conditioning repairs and fault-finding
We’re proud to have completed thousands of installations over the years — and even prouder that much of our work comes through repeat clients and recommendations.
We’ve also built long-standing expertise in Fujitsu air conditioning, installing and supporting split and ducted systems across residential and commercial properties. That consistency has helped us develop deep product knowledge — the kind that only comes from decades of real-world work.
From the Costa del Sol to All of Andalucía
In the early years, our work was concentrated across the Costa del Sol and nearby towns. We covered Mijas Costa, Mijas, Marbella, San Pedro, Estepona, Manilva, Duquesa, Sotogrande, Alcaidesa, Benalmádena, Torremolinos, and Málaga.
As Envirocare grew — and as our capability and demand expanded — so did our reach.
Today, we cover the whole of Andalucía.
A Business Built Here — and a Family Life Built Here Too
Envirocare has been a major part of our story, but Spain has been the setting for our life as well. Our children were born in Spain, educated here, and grew up here, and we’re proud that they’ve gone on to build careers outside of Spain. It’s a reminder that the past 30 years haven’t only been about building a business — they’ve been about building a home, relationships, and a future.
Looking Ahead
Thirty years on, we’re still committed to improving — staying current, maintaining standards, and providing dependable air conditioning services across Andalucía.
To everyone who has trusted Envirocare over the years: thank you. Your support has helped us grow from a young couple starting out in 1996 into a company serving customers across the entire region.
